4 days until World Thinking Day 2015! Let's learn about Uniforms in SVG and Canada!

With only 4 days to go until World Thinking Day 2015, we hope you are getting excited about Twinning2020!! Throughout the initiative there will be many opportunities for learning, connecting, and sharing between Girl Guides in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Atlantic Canada.

We, your Twinning2020 leads from SVG and Atlantic Canada, will be featuring blog posts throughout the twinning initiative about topics important to Guiding in both countries.

Up first - Uniforms!

Uniforms are an important part of many Guiding organizations around the world, but why do we wear them?

There are many reasons for wearing a uniform including:

Recognition and Identification

Wearing a uniform identifies us as a member of the same organization (within our country) whether Girl Guides of Canada or Girl Guides Association of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Our uniform also identifies us a good citizen and member of the community.

Pride and Belonging

Wearing our uniform reminds us that we are members of the same organization and that no matter our background we are all welcome in Girl Guides.

Achievement

Our uniforms display badges and other awards so that our achievements are easily recognized.

In Canada the current uniform consists of a t-shirt for Sparks, Brownies, Guides, Pathfinders and Rangers that is blue with different coloured trim to indicate the different age groups.

Pink for Sparks; Brown for Brownies; Blue for Guides; Green for Pathfinders; Red for Rangers. All girl members wear a tie, tied with a reef knot. Ties have maple leaves (the maple tree is Canada’s national tree) in the corresponding colour for each level. Bottoms (pants) are navy blue.

Spark; Brownie; Guide; Pathfinder; Ranger (Canada)

In the Girl Guides Association of St. Vincent and the Grenadines all members have a formal uniform and a casual uniform. A formal uniform is worn to weekly meetings and special ceremonies while our casual uniform (also referred to as camp uniform) is worn to outdoor activities and light social gatherings.
